Itamar was established in 1984 by families from the Machon Meir Yeshiva in Jerusalem, with support from the Amana settlement organization. The community was initially named Tel Chaim, in honor of Chaim Landau, and later renamed Itamar after the biblical figure, the youngest son of Aaron. Over the years, Itamar has developed into a predominantly Orthodox and Religious Zionist community, with a focus on agriculture and education.
