Ma'ale Amos was established in 1981 by graduates of the Aish HaTorah yeshiva, with support from the Mishkei Herut Beitar movement. Named after the biblical prophet Amos, who resided in nearby Tekoa, the community is situated 20 kilometers southeast of Jerusalem at an elevation of 725 meters above sea level. It falls under the jurisdiction of the Gush Etzion Regional Council.
