Neot Smadar, established in 1989 by a group of friends from Jerusalem, is located in the southern Negev Desert, approximately 70 kilometers north of Eilat. The kibbutz was founded on the site of the abandoned Shizafon kibbutz, which had been vacated in 1988. NEW CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
Neot Smadar is currently undertaking significant development projects to enhance its infrastructure and sustainability. A major initiative is the construction of one of Israel's largest energy storage facilities, approved in 2026. This facility will have a storage capacity of 645 MWh and is expected to cost between NIS 370-400 million. Additionally, the kibbutz is expanding its observatory, which, upon completion, will comprise 48 telescopes, making it the telescope with the largest field of vision in the world.
TRANSPORTATION & ACCESSIBILITY
Transportation to and from Neot Smadar is facilitated by bus services, including routes 24 and 392, which connect the kibbutz to surrounding areas. The nearest bus stop, Road 40/Neot Smadar, is a short walk from the community center.
