Mivtahim was initially established on January 7, 1947, as a kibbutz by members of the HaOved HaTzioni movement. During the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the original settlement was evacuated, and in 1950, a moshav was founded nearby by immigrants from Kurdistan, later joined by Moroccan immigrants in 1954. Today, Mivtahim operates as a moshav under the jurisdiction of the Eshkol Regional Council.
